A MESSAGE FROM THE  CHANCELLOR OF
SAN PEDRO UNIVERSITY

Responding to the challenging of globalism-current which is full of competition, San Pedro University has been initiating to execute education revolution through new and innovative breakthrough; among others is the implementation of bilingual program and campus digital system. Bilingual program is the program that requires university community (lecturers, administrative staff, students, and employees) to employ two languages (Indonesian and English) as medium of instruction and communication at campus with the aim to develop their knowledge and skills. Whereas, the implementation of digital campusis the use of information technology as medium of studyin self development by employing facilities provided by university. For that purpose, all members of the campus community must be able to speak English and smart to operate information technology as well.

Menanggapi tantangan arus globalisasi yang penuh  persaingan,Universitas San Pedro telah dan sedang melakukan  revolusi pendidikan dengan terobosan-terobosan baru yang kreatif inovatif antara lain pelaksanaan program bilingual dan penerapan sistem   kampus digital. Program bilingual adalah program yang mengharuskan penggunaan dua bahasa (bahasa Inggris dan bahasa Indonesia) oleh warga kampus  (dosen, staf administrasi, mahasiswa, dan karyawan) sebagai bahasa pengantar perkuliahan dan bahasa komunikasi  di kampus dengan tujuan untuk mengembangkan ilmu dan ketrampilan. Sedangkan, penerapan sistem kampus digital adalah penggunaan informasi teknologi  sebagai sarana belajar dalam pengembangan diri dengan menggunakan  fasilitas yang telah disiapkanoleh universitas.Untuk itu, semua warga kampus harus mampu berbahasa Inggris dan trampil menggunakan Teknologi informasi dengan baik pula.

To carry out these two programs, the  students do not be afraid due to the University of San Pedro will assist them. For example, to make the students are able to speak English well, San PedroUniversity provides the following programs and activities: (1) English Intensive course for 72 hours, (2) create English  as one of the compulsory subjects to be taught for all study programsduring 6 (six) semesters, (3) conduct some activities; debate, speech, quiz, discussion, choir, chorus, art and culture performance, and university public lecture in English. Whereas to master  Information Technology, the new students of San Pedro University  will be given a twenty-hour course  before university lecture and  IT be created as compulsory subject to be taught duringtwo semesters for all study programs.

Untuk melaksanakan kedua program tersebut, mahasiswa tidak perlu khawatir karena pihak universitas akan membantunya. Misalnya untuk membuat mahasiswa mampu berbahasa Inggris dengan baik, makapihak universitas menyediakan program-program  dan kegiatan-kegiatan sebagai berikut: (1) kursus bahasa Inggris selama 72 jam, (2) menjadikan Bahasa Inggris  sebagai mata kuliah wajib universitas untuk diajarkan pada semua program studiselama 6 (enam) semester, (3) menyelenggarakan kegiatan-kegiatan: debat, pidato, cepat tepat, diskusi, paduan suara,  pentas budaya dan seni, dan Kuliah Umumdalam Bahasa Inggris. Sedangkan untuk penguasaan teknologi informasi, mahasiswa baru UNISAP diberi kursus computer selama 20 jam sebelum kuliah dan Teknologi Informasi dijadikan sebagai matakuliah wajib untuk semua program studi selama dua semester.

Beside the two speciality above, San Pedro University will constantly carry out “the three responsibilities of institute of higher education”(education and teaching, research, and social service). The UNISAP also gives fully support to students’ curricular activities. And to meet the needs of people of this region, UNISAP has answered them through  creating of 10 (ten) study programs and three of them are the first study programs in East Nusa Tenggara province: Environmental    Engineering study program, Statistics study program, and  Extraordinarily uncommon Education study program.

Selain kedua keunggulan di atas, Universitas San Pendro terus  melaksanakan Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi (Pendidikan dan Pengajaran, Penelitian, dan Pengabdian pada Masyarakat). UNISAP juga sepenuhnya mendukung kegiatan-kegiatan ekstra kurikuler kemahasiswaan. Dan untuk menjawab berbagai kebutuhan masyarakat di daerah ini, UNISAP telah menjawabnya dengan membuka 10 (sepuluh)  program studi dan 3 (tiga) di antaranya adalah yang pertama di provinsi Nusa Tenggara Timur  yaitu Program Studi : Teknik Lingkungan, Statistika, dan Pendidikan  Luar Biasa.

We must be proud of San Pedro University for it has been the first University in East Nusa Tenggara province has been paving the way to the implementation of bilingual program in teaching-learning activities and in campus communication (among lecturers, students, administrative staff, and employees). This program is supported by qualified master and doctor lecturers both home and foreign graduates with good English.

Kita harus berbangga dengan Universitas San Pedro karena UNISAP tampil sebagai perguruan tinggi pertama di NTT menerapkan  program  bilingual  dalam perkuliahan dan dalam komunikasi di kampus (antar dosen, mahasiswa, staf adminstrasi, dan karyawan).  Program tersebut didukung oleh para dosen  S2 dan S3 yang burmutu baik tamatan dalam maupun luar negeri  dengan kemampuan berbahasa  Inggris yang baik.
